About the Role

As a Computational Linguist at PhonoPair, you'll be at the heart of our technology, designing and implementing algorithms for phonetic analysis and linguistic pattern recognition. You'll work at the intersection of linguistics, computer science, and artificial intelligence to enhance our core phonetic matching capabilities.

This role involves both theoretical and practical aspects of computational linguistics, focusing on phonetics, phonology, and their practical applications in naming and brand analysis. You'll collaborate with our engineering and product teams to transform linguistic insights into valuable features for our users.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement phonetic analysis algorithms for various languages and dialects

  • Develop methods for quantifying phonetic similarity and compatibility between words

  • Create models for analyzing sound symbolism and phonaesthetics across languages

  • Improve our phonetic transcription systems for accurate pronunciation representation

  • Collaborate with engineers to integrate linguistic algorithms into our software

  • Conduct research on phonetic patterns in successful brand names and marketing language

  • Analyze phonetic data to identify trends and patterns that influence naming success

  • Stay current with research in computational linguistics and contribute to the field

Requirements
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computational Linguistics, Linguistics, or related field

  • Strong knowledge of phonetics and phonology across multiple languages

  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP) and computational linguistics methods

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred)

  • Experience with machine learning approaches to linguistic analysis

  • Familiarity with International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and transcription systems

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to translate complex linguistic concepts for non-specialist team members

Nice to Have
  • Experience in product development or industry research settings

  • Knowledge of multiple languages, especially non-Indo-European languages

  • Background in marketing linguistics or brand name research

  • Experience with speech recognition or synthesis technologies

  • Publications in computational linguistics or related fields
